At JZ Flowers, we strive to be the best stewards of the land possible. We want to preserve and improve our environment to grow the best flowers.
We plant our sunflowers with a no-till planter specialized piece of equipment that creates a narrow channel in the soil for planting seeds while minimizing soil disturbance.
We add compost and manure yearly to amend our soil. We test our soil to determine the fertility of soil as well as the optimum lime and fertilizer requirements for our flower crops.
Weed control is accomplished by using a cultivator between the rows of sunflowers. Neem oil is used as a natural pesticide for pest control and diseases.
The tractor used is a John Deere 1950 M that belonged to Joanie's grandfather, Paul Nasipak. Jim keeps this tractor in tip-top shape.
